2012 is a special year for Fiskars as we celebrate the 45th anniversary of our Original Orange-Handled Scissors™. First introduced in 1967 as a top-quality scissors, our Orange-Handled Scissors redefined the standard for comfort, quality and cutting precision. Not only was our innovative new design much lighter and more comfortable than forged scissors, the cutting performance was so good it forced many a home seamstress to declare the scissors off limits.

 

Fiskars and The World Design Capital

When Helsinki was chosen as the World Design Capital for 2012, Fiskars was honored to be named an official partner of the event. Fiskars will have a special place of prominence in the World Design Capital, not far from where our company got its start 363 years ago. As we honor our past, we’ll also be looking forward to creating more great products that make doing the activities you love a little easier and a lot more rewarding. Origins of Orange

Fiskars Orange® is an important part of our identity. Orange Handled Scissors are a registered trademark of Fiskars Corporation. The orange color came about partly by chance when our iconic scissors were designed in 1967. The prototype handle was created using orange resin left over in a molding machine used to produce an orange juicer. The final decision on color was decided by a vote. Orange defeated black by nine votes to seven. As of now, we have sold over 1 billion!
