I love to head down to the lake on a summer day to sit by the water…just reading and relaxing. It’s great to have a summery bag that I can throw a few things in, and not have to worry about it getting wet or sandy. This hobo bag is great for toting a few essentials – book, sunglasses, sunscreen – to the beach!

I started with a simple pattern, and modified it just a bit to make the bag even more unstructured. I chose a patchwork fabric to mimic a quilted look without the work of actually quilting (more time for the beach!).

1. Using the pattern as your guide, cut out the fabric pieces using Fiskars Spring Action No 8 Bent Scissors (these scissors are really easy on your hands!)

2. Follow the pattern instructions for assembling and sewing the pieces. Note that I eliminated the sew-in interfacing that the pattern called for – I simply lined the bag with additional cotton fabric.

3. Instead of finishing the straps, close the end seams, and tie the straps in a knot. Not only is this easy, but it adds to the casual look of the bag.

4. The Fiskars 12-in-1 Multi Sewing Tool has a handy stuffing tool that will make turning the bag right side out so much easier!
Toss in some light reading, your shades, and a little SPF…and you’re ready to enjoy a lazy summer day!
