With so many Fiskars punch shapes available, the possibilities are endless when creating paper pieced designs. To make these owls, I used some fairly basic shapes and layered these punches to make each owl unique.

Instructions:
1. To create the layout, I started with a few strips of pattern paper. I made sure to position the paper and photo so that there would be space for the branches and owls on the page.

2. The first owl is the simplest of the 4 owls. I used a 2 inch circle punch to cut out a small crescent from the top of the owlís body. The flowers and circles are layered to create the owls eyes. The leaves are tucked behind the body as wings.

3. This next owl is created with irregularly shaped squares and the wings are hearts that have been cut in half and layered. The head is an oval that has had a portion of the same oval punched from the top. The blue mask is made the in the same way and then a circle punch is used to cut away curves from the bottom. The head and mask are then layered. Small flower punches are used for the feet.

4. For the next owl, I used the scallop blade on my trimmer to cut across the circles. Smaller circles create the eyes along with layered flower punches. At the last minute I also added 2 leaf shaped punches behind the eyes.

5. The last owl is made using an upside down heart punch for the head. The feet are made using the Love Me, Love Me Not Squeeze Punch.

6. The layout title is made by stamping letters on pattern paper and then cutting out small rectangles.

7. I used the Everywhere Punch Window System to punch out the squares for the cover on my hidden journaling card. Using a regular square punch doesnít have the same reach as the Everywhere Punch. I like that I can make the borders of the windows wider with this new tool.
