A Year of Cards: Birthday

Funky Artsy Birthday Card

For my monthly installment of my year-long card project, I’m stretching the definition of what a card is.

For me, it’s something that’s given for a reason or occasion.  It houses a sentiment. There is text and images involved.  It’s a contained message - meant to be revealed in two stages. First when you look at the cover, secondly when you look inside.

I thought outside the notion of a card and put it all inside a box!

In my family and in my circle of friends, there are many April birthdays, so I wanted to create a special “card” to share with someone special on their day.

First, start by trimming a matchbox with washi tape or by stamping a border.

Use your paper trimmer to cut a scrap of patterned paper to line the inside bottom of your box. Punch out a few clouds and stamp a sentiment on one of them. Attach these pieces with double-stick tape or adhesive dimensional dots

Trim the exterior of your box with a “valance” for the window made from a scrap of paper and a border punch. Add another sentiment, a few buttons and embellishments

In the bottom corners, add a few paper flowers and cotton mushrooms and attach using a hot glue gun.

Add a little bird to complete the scene.
