Thanksgiving is a holiday steeped in tradition. I love all the favorites that I grew to expect on the Thanksgiving tables of my childhood, but also enjoy the newer traditions my husband and I have started together.
There’s no reason traditions can’t evolve, and that is the inspiration for this Mod Thanksgiving dinner invitation. I wanted to create a card that reflects what the holiday means to me today – a little old and a little new. The gold and yellow tones are a nod to tradition and the gray background and bold patterns make it feel fresh and modern.
If your Thanksgiving is a mix of old and new, this is the perfect invitation to send to your guests and help set the tone for the day.
Begin by cutting an 11” x 7” piece of charcoal gray cardstock with your paper trimmer. Fold it in half and crease the fold.
Run two vertical strips of a gold patterned washi tape across the card face.
Take your Running in Circles Intricate Shape Punch and punch a total ten shapes from cream, butter yellow, and mustard yellow card stock for each invitation you are creating.
Take five or your punched shapes, overlap the bottom row of circles in the top shape with the top row of circles from the second shape, make sure they are aligned perfectly, and glue together using a glue stick. Repeat until you have a strip of five shapes.
Crate a second strip using the remaining five punched shapes.
Next, use an acrylic block and embossing ink to stamp a fork, knife and spoon onto a small scrap of gray cardstock. Dust the ink with a gold or bronze embossing powder and tap the paper to remove any excess. Use a heat gun or hairdryer to melt and set the embossing powder. Take caution, and be sure not to burn your fingers!
Glue the two strips of joined circles to the card face, centered on the washi tape stripes. Glue the embossed piece to the bottom right corner of the card.
Write the event details inside the card using a white or yellow gel pen.
