Chalkboard Project

Here are three ways to get inspired by the chalkboard trend.

I have been a fan of giant chalkboard walls for a long time – I have a half-wall painted with chalkboard paint in my kitchen. As the chalk trend heats up again, my pinboards and inspiration files are filled with ideas. I decided to explore three ways to bring the look of the trend into crafting projects – some don’t even require chalk! I’m already looking forward to spring travel, so these projects are focused on adventures.

Inspiration #1: Chalk Lettering.

There’s something fun and casual about the look of chalk lettering. One great way to incorporate the look into your projects is to use a chalk font. This one, called Chalk Dust, allowed me to use the trend in this fun card. I simply printed my design onto photo paper, and trimmed to look like an instant print. I love this fun, but clean, look for cards.

Inspiration #2: White on Black Embossing.

This is my favorite way to bring the look of chalk lettering to projects! I used my Fuse Creativity System to letterpress black cardstock using embossing ink. I then covered the image with embossing powder, and heated. The raised white elements look so much like chalk! I adhered the compass “stamp” shape to a blank notebook – perfect for jotting down memories!

Inspiration #3: Chalkboard Tiles.

Love the look of chalkboard walls, but don’t want to fully commit? Many craft stores now sell 12x12 chalkboard tiles. I used a few favorite Fiskars punches to create a fun border, and now I’ve got a handy space to write my travel to-do list.
