Too old for trick or treating? Or simply looking for a more grown-up way to celebrate this spooky holiday? Throw a grown-up Halloween party! Use these tips and tricks to serve up a frightfully good time for your friends…
Dress up your table
Instead of tissue paper ghosts, let your Halloween decorations take on a more sophisticated flare. Use green, black and orange decorating marbles at the bottom of clear vases holding black roses. Add candles to hurricane style vases, then fill the outside with candy corns. Paint tree limbs black, add to an orange vase, and then hang festive embellishments from the branches.
Try decorating a witch’s hat, or adding paper accents to a foam pumpkin.
Serve color-themed snacks
Halloween doesn’t just have to be about candy (although who really complains about that?). Think of colorful ways to extend your party theme into snacks – black and green olives, orange carrots, and crostini made with white goat cheese. Parties are perfect for finger foods – so have fun with appetizers! Check out these great snack ideas from The Food Network and serve your guests in ghoulish style.
Offer wicked beverages
Brew up a batch of hot apple cider, and offer cinnamon sticks to spice things up. Or stir up some blood-red cranberry punch by mixing ginger ale with cranberry juice and lemon sherbet. Want a little more zing? Create custom wine bottle wrappers offering “vampire blood” or “witch’s brew” – or maybe a selection of pumpkin ale or other seasonal beers.
Include a little trick-or-treat
Bowls of candy and nuts will even make adults say “trick or treat!” – and will keep kid’s candy safe from parental hands! I’ll admit to have quite an obsession with candy corn. Death by sugar? I can think of worse ways to perish!
Make your party BYOP
That’s bring-your-own-pumpkin! As an alternative to a traditional costume party, have guests bring a carved pumpkin to display at the party. Guests can vote on the most creative carving and the winner takes home a prize (maybe their own bottle of vampire blood wine?).
I hope these tips help you celebrate Halloween with style!
