Happy New Year! After the decadence of the holiday season, treat your friends to a simple and whimsical brunch to start the new year off right. New Year’s Day has always been one of my favorite days. I love the feeling of possibility and freshness. I’ve hosted a casual New Year’s Brunch this year to help welcome new possibilities. Here are three easy steps to creating a fun, positive vibe:
Invite a positive New Year.
Create a simple framed resolution statement with a 12x12 piece of printed cardstock, and an unfinished frame. I used the XXL Banner Lever Punch to create a simple banner to add a decorative touch.
1. Sandwich bakers twine between two flags and adhere.
2. Embellish with small buttons.
3. Attach larger buttons to the corners of frame, and wrap the ends of the twine around the buttons.
Decorate with whimsical flowers.
It’s not easy to have fresh flowers in the house during a New England winter. To add a bit of color & whimsy, I created small paper flowers.
1. Punch various circle & flower shapes.
2. Lightly mist with water, and crinkle with your fingers. Let dry.
3. Layer shapes, finishing with a button for the flower center.
4. Cut a slit in the top of a straw, and slide onto each flower to create stems.
Serve up a space to record resolutions.
Provide your guests with a place to record resolutions or intentions! I created these simple library pockets, and slipped a library journaling card from Fancy Pants Designs. I’ll ask my guests to use the card to jot down a few things that they’d like to do in 2013.
1. To create the library pocket, trim cardstock to 3 inches longer than the library or journaling card.
2. Use a scoring blade to score 3 inches from one end of the cardstock.
3. Fold upward, and adhere ONLY along the sides, creating a pocket.
4. Embellish with paper ribbon, punched with the AdvantEdge Punch System. Adhere with foam dots, and add 2 brads for detail.
5. Add ‘2013’ to the top of the library pocket with sticker alphas.
You’ll probably want to stick to a lighter meal – fresh fruit, croissants, and fresh juices will be a nice change of pace after the holiday indulgences. Enjoy!
Special thanks to Fancy Pants Designs for providing the patterned paper & library journaling cards for this project.
