Silver Screen Awards Dinner Party

Take some inspiration from Hollywood and dress your table for an Silver Screen Awards Dinner Party!

The award season is a great reason for a gathering. The show always happens in the dead of winter, between holidays, in a pocket of time when our social calendar tends to be a little light. It’s fun to watch the whole event with friends, comment on the red carpet fashions together, and root for your favorite films and actors.

The stars are dressed in their formal finery at this event, and this was my inspiration for the table. It’s dressed with elegance, some Hollywood charm, and a little sparkle, too.  Polish the crystal, press the napkins, and break out the good china.  Let’s start crafting a party!

The popcorn topiary is easy to make, but a little bit laborious. You can make your own caramel corn recipe for this project, or for a few dollars, pick up a bag at the store. Begin by using a hot glue gun to adhere the caramel corn to a large styrofoam sphere. Glue one piece at a time and work your way around the ball. Leave a small opening at the bottom to insert the wooden dowel. Exercise caution when using your glue gun and avoid burning your fingertips.

Cut a chunk of styrofoam and insert it into your topiary base. It should fit snuggly in the bottom 2/3 of the container. Insert a 12” wooden dowel vertically into the center of the foam.

Wrap a band of tickets around the container and adhere with double-sided tape. Insert the popcorn-covered ball into the other end of the dowel. Finish the piece off by adding some loose caramel corn to the top of the container to conceal the styrofoam.

To create these movie-themed votive cups, just cut a strip of movie tickets, wrap them around the glass votives, and adhere the strips with double-sided tape. They’re easy to make, and candles add so much to a dinner table, so make plenty!

Cut several 2-inch wide strips of corrugated, glittered paper to make these “Hollywood Walk of Fame” table runners. Punch your stars from glittered cardstock and attach them with glue or adhesive foam.

For the place cards, visit a party store and pick up a package of mini award trophies. Punch a star and scalloped circle from glittered paper. Use your glue gun to attach the trophy to the scalloped circle base and a star to the front. Cut a small flag from a scrap of black cardstock, write the guest’s name in gold ink, and glue the flag to the star.

These acrylic popcorn buckets were a party store find, too. To dress them up, add a couple of bands of washi tape and a few glittered stars. Fill with popcorn.

Use a strip of tickets to make a napkin ring and then attach a scalloped circle and gold star with adhesive foam to finish it off.

TTo add a little more glitz and create a pattern, place a large sheet of decorative paper to the center of the table, then add all of your details.
