I have hosted many Halloween parties in my adult life. It’s such a fun holiday for entertaining – there are so many ways to get creative using the bounty of the fall, candy, and all those creepy elements and imagery – the spiders, bats, cemetery gates, ghosts and witches.
Many think of it as a holiday for kids, but I think it’s a fun holiday for any age to celebrate, so I wanted to create a few pieces for grown-up gatherings.
When it comes the Halloween color palette – for me, it’s all about the orange and black. I know in recent years that green and purple have been added to the Halloween color palette, but I prefer the nostalgic, traditional colors.
Here are a few orange and black ideas to help inspire a little ghoulish, grown-up entertaining!
Halloween Stirrers or Straws
Help everyone keep track of whose drink is whose, by creating unique straws or stirrers for each guest. Just layer a few punched circles and scalloped circles and adorn with a black cat, spiders, etc. Glue the piece to a striped straw. Drop in a cocktail for sipping or stirring.
Ghostly Gate Treat Bags
Use your AdvantageEdge Border Punch and an ornate cartridge to punch a border from black cardstock. Slip the piece into a waxed paper bag. Fill the bag with a treat – like dried black cherries and apricots. Fold the top over, punch two holes with a hole punch and slip a wide grosgrain ribbon through the holes to keep it closed. Finish it off with a Halloween embellishment. The black cardstock looks like a ghostly cemetery gate through the slightly-opaque waxed paper.
Dark Garden Candy Cups
Cut several daisy shapes from corrugated black paper using your Fuse Creativity System®. Glue a paper nut cup in the flower center, trim with a sparkly spider, and fill the cup with snips of orange and black licorice.
Pick up a bag of glittered balls in orange and black at your local craft store. Use your Amplify™ Mixed Media Scissors to snip the side off a glittered ball. Punch out a spider, and glue the snipped side to the spider paper body to create a dimensional spider.
Use these sparkly spiders these to trim and decorate everywhere.
Dark and Sweet Treats
The wedding aisle at your local craft and hobby store offers all sorts of sweet favor boxes. In recent years black has become a very popular wedding “color” and it’s now easy to find a favor box in that color.
Fill the box with a dark chocolate and orange ruffle, tie the box closed with an orange ribbon, and trim with a few punched shapes and Halloween embellishments.
Trim it All
Use your ribbon tails and paper scraps to embellish your serving pieces. These details make a difference!
