Fun and easy ways to bring a touch of spring to your gifts and home.
We all have them: overflowing scrapbook and craft rooms. We’ve spent years collecting supplies. We had to have the latest papers, stickers, and embellishments. This makes the first step in eco-friendly scrapping rather easy…reduce your scrapbooking purchases. Here’s your challenge…use what you have. Gasp! Don’t fret…you can make your “old” supplies look new by using a bit of creativity, and your Fiskars tools.
Squeeze punches and borders punches allow you to use little bits of paper to create interesting embellishments for your pages. Try layering punched shapes with foam adhesive to create dimensional accents. Border punches help bring new life to “older” patterned papers.
Eco-friendly Crafting Challenge – use scraps, items from your stash, and punches to create a layout.
This simple layout of my son was a breeze to make with a few scraps of paper, and my Fiskars tools. I used the Fiskars Upper Crest Border punch to create dimension, and added easy accents with the Fiskars Twinkle Twinkle squeeze punches.
The great thing about buying quality tools is that they last. Stay away from single serve embellishments that are used up in one layout. Instead, reach for stamps and punches to help you create unique and interesting projects. This is a great way to create cards – you can create multiple cards using just one set of stamps, and a few punches.
Tip – if you find that your squeeze punches are getting dull, simply punch through a few layers of aluminum foil.
Eco-friendly Crafting Challenge – use one set of stamps, and several punches, to create 2-3 cards.
For these springy notecards, I chose Fiskars Terrific Tags stamps and Limited Edition Spring Punches. I plan to create a few more cards with these tools…the combinations are really limitless!
Everything old is new again! Altering items is a crafty alternative to creating projects from scratch. It also provides the perfect opportunity to recycle items that otherwise would go unused. If you’re like me, you have a hard time throwing out all those cute shopping and gift bags that you’ve collected. So why not recycle them for the next gift that you give? Gather your patterned paper, cardstock, ribbon, and Fiskars tools and give new life to your gift wrap stash.
Eco-friendly Crafting Challenge – recycle a shopping or gift bag; decorate using Fiskars tools, cardstock, and patterned paper.
I just adore this little gift box and gift bag from Henri Bendels, so I kept in my giftwrap drawer to reuse. I added simple accents with Fiskars Scalloped Sentiments Border punch, and new Poppy Lever punches. It’s like re-gifting…only craftier!
Remember your eco-friendly crafting mantra – reduce, reuse, recycle. Happy Earth Day!
