Vintage Inspired Prom Corsage

Create a pretty flower to pin on a purse or a prom dress.

This sweet prom corsage was inspired by poufy crinoline and tulle prom dresses of the 1950’s.  It would pair nicely with a vintage dress, but with its mixed metallic tones, it could work just as well with a more modern gown. Pin it to a dress or attach it to a clutch purse.

The best part about this design- it makes a perfect keepsake, too. Fresh flowers fade fast, but this little beauty will last a lifetime, and serve as a sweet souvenir of a memorable eve.

Begin by cutting six to eight 6” squares of sparkly tulle.

Stack several squares together, fold them into half, then quarters, then fold again to make a triangle (just like your folding paper to make a snowflake). Cut a rounded “v” from the end of the triangle, unfold, and you’ll have a flower shape.

Carefully staple the point.

Cut three 2” x 5” strips of metallic crepe paper using your pinking shears. Fold the strips accordion–style, and twist a fabric-coated wire around the centers to create a “bow tie”. Fan the ends out to form a circle.

Next, prepare the other elements for the corsage:

Gather a few feathers. Punch a few flower and leaf shapes from glittery paper. Make a small bow from a coordinating ribbon.

Layer your elements

Cut a 1.5” x 3” strip of heavy, glittered cardstock to use as a base for your corsage. Layer your elements starting with the feathers and paper medallions and attach them with hot glue.

Add your punched shapes using foam dots to add dimension. Attach your bow and tulle flower with hot glue.

Turn the corsage over, and glue on a pin back.
