Floral and Feather Mardi Gras Centerpiece

Create a glitzy Mardi Gras Centerpiece with Christmas crafting leftovers!

I do love glitter and sparkle, and jump at any chance to add a little (or a lot) of either into my craft projects. Before all of the post-season discounted Holiday bling disappears from the stores, I always take advantage of the sales, stock up on sparkle, and tuck those away for future projects.

I found these sparkly purple leaves in my stash, and though they’re from Christmas, they screamed Mardi Gras to me, and were my inspiration for this Floral and Feather Mardi Gras Centerpiece.  I used my glittery Christmas card-making scraps to create the blooms, some leftover tinsel stems for the flower stems, and it hardly cost a thing the make this centerpiece!

To create yours, start by rounding up some scraps of glittered paper and cardstock scraps in golds, greens, and purples. Punch a circle from glittered paper to use as a base for your flower. Attach some layers of flower shapes with adhesive dots and build your bloom.

Use a hot glue gun to attach a tinsel or chenille stem to the back of the flower.

Create a dozen or so of these sparkly blooms to fill your vase.

Next, fill a clear vase with Mardi Gras beads. Let them spill over the edge.

Take a branch of glittery leaves and use a pair of wire cutters to trim them into small bits. Insert the smaller pieces into the bead foundation.

Add your flowers.

Punch out a few glittery butterflies and attach them to the leaves and flowers with a hot glue gun.

Finally, finish off the centerpiece by adding a few feathers for texture and fun.
