I am a wife and mother to 2 gorgeous children who have taught me more about life than I would have ever thought possible. I have a degree in French and Linguistics and trained and worked as a high school teacher for a few years before having children. Over the last 6 years my love of crafting in general and of sewing in particular have kept me busy and entertained. I blog, have a small etsy store and am really excited to be part of the Fiskars Design Team.
1. How long have you been crafting?
I have been making things my whole life. As a little girl I was always making something, with my mom’s encouragement. I remember creating marble paper, growing miniature gardens in trays, making pom-poms, sewing Barbie clothes, finger knitting and tie dyeing t-shirts (it was the early 80s, what can I say?) with her. Now I’m the mom and I try to follow the example she set for me by encouraging my children to participate in many of the projects I undertake.
2. Why did you start crafting?
When my children were born I began creating things more fervently than ever before. It initially began as a hobby which quickly became a social activity that I shared with good friends. Now I see it as a huge part of who I am. My brain and fingers are happy when they are busy working out some new skill or creating something beautiful.
3. How long have you been on the Fiskars design team?
I was brought on board in June 2011.
4. What are your favorite craft activities?
My main love is sewing. I especially enjoy making clothes for my children (I am making the most of them being young enough to actually WANT to wear something I make), clothes for myself, bags and purses. I also enjoy crocheting when I get the chance and have been known to give pretty much anything a go.
5. How do you define your crafting style/aesthetic?
I like an emphasis on bold, bright colors with a contemporary/modern flair.
6. What is your favorite time of day to craft?
Anytime!
7. What motivates/inspires you?
My motivation comes from the wonderfully simple enjoyment I get from creating something either for myself or for others. Especially for others. I am always inspired by real life; crowds of people, books, magazines, fashion trends, blogs and the bright, beautiful colors of Southern California.
8. If you could only have one Fiskars® tool, what would it be and why?
It would be the Fiskars titanium rotary cutter because it makes cutting out patterns simple and quick and its sliding blade guard keeps little fingers safe.
