Ideal for taller users or anyone who prefers a longer axe, our much-requested X27 Splitting Axe provides power that makes splitting medium-sized to extra-large logs easier than ever. Like every X-Series™ Hatchet or Axe, the X27 combines perfected weight distribution, advanced blade geometry, an ultra-sharp edge and virtually unbreakable design to maximize your performance. I bought this last winter to keep my wood stove fed and was never disappointed in the performance. It is light, fast and designed to prevent sticking. I also have a True temper that I use side by side to prolong the time between resharpening and find that I leave him on the bench most of the time. The trick in using this jewel is in head speed. Don't choke up on the handle and accelerate through the strike and you will be able to make fast work of the job. It took me a while to improve my aim but I caught on after a while. I would stay away from the 28" and go for ther 36".
Started off the winter with 6 cords and 2 broken fiberglass axes, bought this axe, 58 cords later it finally broke, its been the best axe I've ever owned so I wasted no time and bought another till I put my claim in. claim was put in and they didn't even ask any questions, new ones on its way ! totally worth every penny and customer service is awesome.
Fantastic axe! Wish I had discovered it years ago. I keep it sharp with an oilstone. I cut oak with it and I makes easy work of it. For the price, I paid $49.99, it is fantastic value. Looked at Granfors Bruks but the price is very high. This maul must be hard to beat for value and quality.
After almost a year now of owning the best splitter since sliced bread I have finally broke it, the handle snapped at the head, I own the x25 and just filled out my claim, but this little bugger has out lasted 5 8lb junkers, 100+ cords of wood, and just amazed me with every swing, no specific wood slows it down, I burn everything from simple soft woods to walnuts, and ash, even pops right thru iron wood, you know the stuff that does not burn until you hit volcano temps, yep you can wreck a truck on a 1" branch but the fiskars splitter pops it like it was nothing! As long as my claim is taken care of I will buy the x27 as well, nice to have a smaller one in the wood hauler and one at the home for keeping the kids busy! Don't let these guys go dull either, keep a razor edge on it and it will work for ever, I use a wet stone and you can shave with it when I am done! What am I talking about, I would buy another even if they didnt stand behind it! Awesome stuff!
Best I have ever seen. A friend of mind had told me that he got a new splitting maul , I told him I would stick with my 8lb maul. The next day I was going cutting and asked him if he would like to come help me. He arrived in the woods and showed me the new maul, I kind of smiled and said we will see how it works. A hour later we had cut all the wood we needed to and set to splitting . I split with the 8lb for a few then switched to the x27, I don't think I will ever pickup the 8lb maul again. The x27 splits faster and much easier then anything I've ever used. It's much easier on the body too. I just wish I would have found the x27 years ago. Thanks for a great product!!!!!
While it may look like a toy at first one thing you quickly figure out is this axe is engineered to perform. It's light and fast to swing so it takes a little getting used to vs. the maul but once you get the hang of it it'll rip through massive hardwood. Green or dried no probem. No need even for a sledge thus far- just wiggle the head out and take another accurate stroke and it'll split down the line and rip apart wood. As a couple people mentioned you can use it one handed for smaller pieces. I've even used it for making tindling with some finesse. Be careful with it though as it penetrates so well i find myself hammering into the ground or base-block faily often. It's light enough that it doesnt wear you down and you can do horizontal ground clear splitting. Thank you Fiskars for a marvelous 'reinvention of the wheel' product!
This axe is amazing-I've used it to split all kinds of wood, including elm which is one of the toughest species to split. Just keep it sharp and be careful because it takes alot less force than other mauls and it doesn't stick in the wood.
From the very first hit you can tell the Fiskars x27 is extraordinary, and engineering is the reason. I can't imagine anyone not being satisfied with it's capability. I will never go back to my 8 lb maul ... just no need for it ... a waste of energy. I will never use my 4 lb axe ... same reason. My next step is to buy a short handle Fiskars with the same head design for making smaller pieces. Though I can easily one-hand the x27 to chop medium size pieces of firewood, a smaller axe/hatchet of the same design would make such splits effortless.
I've been actively felling trees and cutting the wood up for my wood stove ever since l moved into my house, and when l saw this axe, l had no idea what l was getting into. This has to be one of the best axes I've ever put my hands on. One strike splits even on green wood? Hell yes! I can actually split wood faster than my friend using a log splitter, and l don't even get tired. I will never part with these tools and l don't loan them out l'm so attached. Trust me, if you're on the fence, get on this side and buy one
I love the X27! I am 6'4" so I like the longer handle, the X27 splits better than my 8lbs maul. It works as good as a heavier maul, but doesn't wear you out because it is so much lighter. I did break the handle splitting wood one night. All I did was take a picture and email it to Fiskars, in about 12hrs they sent me an email saying that my warranty claim was processed and I would be getting my new X27 in 7-10 days. I will always buy Fiskars splitters and axes from now on!
Fantastic addition! I own a smaller Fiskars ax and needed something with more oomph. I tried a big box maul but it was dull as a cinder block. After four hours of chopping and beating its still in great shape. The handle can take a beating, my hickory is not holding up as well. The blade coating works very well and hold up extremely well. Still sharp, actually my other one is as well after years of use. Quality products all around, very satisfied.
I was in need of a splitting axe and decided to go to my local big box store,Home Depot but was not impressed with their selection. I looked at some feed back on H.D. brands and they were all terrible so I searched for an alternative. I found the X-27 and was immediately impressed with the balance of it so I purchased it and have not looked back. A wonderfully balanced axe and extremely efficient in splitting logs of every length and girth. I couldn't be happier with my selection. Thanks Fiskars for another wonderful product.

I bought one after my over-enthusiastic sons destroyed my old 2.5 kg Chinese made fibre glass handled splitter. With this new light X27 I can split a piece off a green Aussie hard wood 36" log with one hard fast blow. Bloody fantastic tool, but then again, these nordics have been making axes for a couple of millenia, so they should know what they're doing.
I recently bought this splitting axe online from Sears. I got it home after work and I lierally split my entire wood pile in 30 minutes. I figured I would be working on this for hours even days. I originally used a 8 pound maul and it was way to much work that is when I found Fiskars online. After i split the first two logs in single hits I knew I made the right decision to buy this splitting axe. i even hit the handle a few times and it didn't even leave a mark. Don't hesitate just buy this axe it is the best. I was looking at a $97.95 Stihl splitting maul I am glad i stuck with Fiskars. this is a awesome item
alsome axe i ahave the x27 swings great and cuts threw any thing . Only thing that I found wrong is if you don't know about knots in the wood don't cut,the blade chipped on impact cause i had no clue there was a knot in it. But other than that it is still a good axe
Chopping wood like I was slicing butter with a hot knife. Cut a 2 foot log with my first swing. It is comfortable to hold, light weight but gets the job done with no problems at all and no tiring. I have over swung a couple of times and hit the handle, no problem at all, didn't hurt it even a bit. Holds a sharp edge after cutting logs.
Outstanding wood splitting axe! Performed better than my 8lb maul my first time out with it. Didn't stick in the round like regular axes usually do when the first swing doesn't split it. Fiskars seems to have found the right balance between shape, size, and sharpness.
What an amazing axe! Couldn't be happier with it! I wait to get there to chop more logs, this makes the work easier that one could believe!!
Fiskars, I recently purchased a X27 splitting axe and couldn't be happy with its performance. I am 43 years old and have spent most of my life burning wood and of course cutting and splitting it in preparation for the winter. Historically, I have used a 8lb splitting maul to do the work. I heard about your product from a friend who bragged about what a great axe it is. At first, I doubted his tail of the improved ease of wood splitting using the X27. Whoever one, day we were out cutting oak and he had his Fiskars for me to try out on some large rounds. Impressed would be understatement. The ease of which it split the big rounds was unparalleled to anything I have used. I immediately purchased my own X27 and have been blowing apart the big rounds with ease for weeks now. Thank you for producing suck a great product for all of us "Human Wood Splitters" out here. I cant tell you how much better my back feels form swinging your light weight efficient axe. Purchased the 27x. Best maul I've seen or used -it's made very well in Finland.
Where have you been all of my life? After doing some extensive research I decided to purchase the X27 and I am glad that I did. Fiskars has made the perfect axe! I cuts though some of the toughest wood with ease. I now enjoy splitting wood. Thank you guys!
I recently purchased this splitting ax. I just used it today. it cut through the wood like it was a knife going through butter. It did it quickly and with ease. I am throwing my old ax out. I am impressed. it does not weight a lot, if you have logs that need to be split give this ax a try. i split various logs that were different heights and widths, and the ax cut them all with out difficulty. i am going to purchase the hatchet. next. i never had used fiskar products before other than punning shears. you have gained me as a customer for life. thanks for making a great product and having a life time warranty, if i ever need it
Just bought this today to split up a load of black locust. One-hit splits all the way! I have never split wood so effortlessly. Far from that old splitter of dad's that I could barely lift much less split anything with. Buy it, you will not regret it.
