I love this hatchet and have cut through VERY thick wood (wider than a man in diameter) and have found it to be useful for bushcrafting, making bows and the steel can be sharpened enough for it to be used for fine tasks when holding up on the handle. Very budget friendly and the handle is very durable; I have overstruck on the handle on accident multiple times and its like new. Only concerns is if you accidently cut through a log, etc and you hit dirt the blade will tend to chip/ roll but other than minor nicks and on my hatchet I've had it for a couple of years and it's still going strong. I did lost the sheath however which makes it a bit scarier to carry around. Overall good budget hatchet and for the price great durability. Don't like the chipping of the steel however.
What a hatchet !!! tough as nails and stays sharp like no other hatchet ive owned , carried it hiking for years and used it to cut trees way larger then what its designed for but it eat um up and came back for more , if i ever wear it out il buy another asap !!!
Came very sharp from the store, light weight easy to swing with my bad arm. I have a 5ton electric log splitter that dosen't comepletly split the wood each time.So this axe will be used to separate the 2 haves. Last year I cut some wood but haven't split it yet,I used the axe to take off the bark to dry it for kindling. I have an outdoor fire pit that I use all this wood for, this axe works great for me. I allso bought the Fiskars blade sharpener, did my pocket knife and some tools in the garage works great.
This axe can do anything u want to do. It excells in choping and spliting wood. I love this axe! Came very sharp. I wish it had a knife or hand saw in the handle. other than that its awsome
Can't recommend this tool enough. I bought one at walmart (highly surprised they would carry actual quality products) and was amazed at the quality of this piece. The blade is actually sharp when purchased, overall lightweight, and study as can be. It is more expensive than some others but the price isn't going to break your wallet not to mention quality isn't cheap. It's well worth the price. Last but not least, it's made in Finland and not China.
I picked this guy up at Wal-Mart on a whim and never really gave it much use figuring it to be Wal-Mart quality. That all changed after I gave it some needed attention with a whetstone and took it with me on a solo trip to the ADK. The trail to Henderson Lake from Duck Hole had been blocked by a beaver pond and there was no navigable alternative. I pulled out my X7 and spent an hour carving a new trail. I felled trees up to 4 inches thick with this little guy. Stripped branches and made blazes on trees over 300 yards of bushwhacking. The handle is just long enough to use both hands when working through thicker wood, but short enough to easily wield one handed with complete control. I could slice off 4 or 5 half inch branches in a single stroke, and cut through 1.5 inch saplings in a 2 or 3. The hatchet was barely noticeable in my pack as the handle feels nearly weightless. While I am still concerned about the durability of the handle, this hatchet has definitely proved itself a worthy addition to my pack. My only wish is that it came with a nicer sheathe. I ended up using my leather Estwing sheathe which is far too large for this head, but much better than the cheap plastic sheathe that this hatchet is packaged in.
ive owned a few hatchets but this one is the best, it out preforms my full size axe that I got at the same price
