I love adding homemade flowers to all my projects – scrapbooking layouts, cards and even in my home décor. By layering felt with patterned papers we get great dimensional flowers- felt gives a rich texture and paper gives you unending options of colors and patterns. Today I am sharing four simple and easy flowers to make.

Flower 1:

1. Punch 4 large scalloped circles from a patterned paper using the squeeze punch. Fold each scallop in half, and then in half again. Arrange these four folded scalloped circles to form a flower as seen.

2. Cut out a circle and a thin long strip (about 8inches by ¼ inches) of felt. Adhere or stitch this long strip of felt to form a ruffled circle. Adhere a XL paper circle onto this. This forms the flower base.

3. Cut another felt circle, this one slightly smaller than the paper circle and adhere onto our flower base. Adhere the folded scalloped circles from step 1 onto this.

4. Attach a brad in the center of the flower.

Flower 2:

1. Trim patterned paper to form 2 inch by 2 inch squares. Use corner punch on each corner of this square. Using a pair of sharp scissors make cuts into this square as seen in photo below, to form one long strip and two smaller strips. Make five such long and smaller strips.

2. Using an adhesive gun, adhere one long strip on an angle onto another step. Fan out the 5 long strips equally and adhere to form a circle. Punch a flower from cardstock, and adhere onto the back of this flower the 5 smaller strips. Curl the edges.

3. To finish off the flower cut an XL and a tiny circle from felt. Punch an XL and Medium circle from cardstock and patterned paper using squeeze punches. Ink the edges.

4. Layer felt, XL circle, adhered longer strips, punched flower (onto which the smaller strips were adhered to), medium circle, felt circle and pearl to form flower.

Flower 3:

1. Cut out three XL circles from felt. Fold two of these circles in half and place next to each other to form a whole circle. These folded circles will help add dimension to the flower. Adhere these two half circles onto the first felt circle. Top this with a XL circle punched from paper. Next, punch out an XL and large scalloped circle. Also punch out a flower. Layer these in decreasing size onto the felt base.

2. Top with a button and brads. I have similarly made a golden flower here using only circle punches instead of scalloped ones.

Flower 4:

1. Punch 5 each of XL and large scalloped circles from patterned paper. Also punch 5 flowers from the same patterned paper. Fold each one of these in half. Adhere the XL scallop circles together with one edge overlapping another to form a circle. Make similar florets of the large scallop circles and flowers.

2. Cut an XL circle from felt. Layer onto this the XL floret, large floret and smaller floret. Top with a button and tie with embroidery floss. I made a similar flower in pink here using only circle punches instead of scallop punches.

Hope you have fun trying out these flowers! Homemade flowers are much more economical to make, and in a few supplies you can easily create a large number of flowers to add a little extra something to your projects.
