Did you know with the use of your Fuse and a little creativity you can create your own custom-made embellishments for a fraction of the cost of ready-mades?
Creating a dimensional letter pressed die-cut piece is very simple and can be made in a matter of minutes by running the same press plate through your Fuse a few times onto different patterned papers and/or cardstock, then layering them to create dimension. Here’s how:
First, you’ll need to choose three coordinating colors of cardstock and/or patterned paper. Cut these papers to 4 ½” x 4 ½”. You’ll also need to choose one ink pad. Using a single color of ink for all three papers will help unify your finished piece. Then, place your die into the orange carrier cartridge and insert the butterfly press plate. Ink the press plate with ink, lay a one piece of paper face-down onto ink and cover with the cutting plate. Pass this sandwich through the Fuse. Remove and allow ink to set momentarily. Repeat process with other two papers.
Then, decide upon which two papers will create the dimension, and use your micro-tip or detail scissors to cut out the lower wing pieces from those two papers as shown.
Mount those layers on top of the background paper using 3-dimensional foam tape. If you want a highly dimensional piece, you can cut a smaller section of foam tape and stack two pieces at the outer edges to give more of a lift from the background.
Stamp a name or sentiment in the open space at the bottom of the die-cut using the Alpha Basic stamp set, mounted to a stamp block.
Then, using your fingertip knife, make a small slit in the center of the butterfly bodice and insert a large brad. Repeat process to add another brad both above and below the center one. This just adds more dimension and detail to the piece. You can substitute buttons or rhinestones in place of the brads.
Prepare the layout as desired. I’ve just simply placed a 10 ½” square piece of patterned paper over a decorative-edged patterned paper, and then added a sentiment sticker at the lower border along with oversized alphabet stickers for the title. Before placing the photo, I added a 2” wide strip of solid paper and gave it the look of a banner by placing it diagonally into my XX-Large Square Lever Punch.
Add the finished piece to your project using your favorite adhesive. Finish it off by adding two mini brads in a coordinating, yet contrasting color by placing them directly over the dots on the outer border of the die-cut.
