Preserve your wonderful vacation memories with these heart-felt, embellished, glass vases.
It's sandwiched between the oh-so-scrappable Halloween festivities and the flurry of gift making and decorating that comes before Christmas. I’ll admit it – it’s hard to make time to capture the memories of Thanksgiving while they’re still fresh.
When I started making these minis, I tried to make them as excuse proof as possible. They’re simple. They use basic supplies – no fancy themed stuff. And more importantly – You can put them together BEFORE Thanksgiving, then just spent a short time adding photos and journaling afterwards. Your family will love having these books to look through.
My first mini is designed to capture what you did on Thanksgiving. I don’t know about your family, but our celebrations vary from year to year – depending on who’s in town, and whether weíre spending it with my family or his. My goal was to record a few of our favorite things from that particular Thanksgiving.
I started with a base of cardstock and added a square of patterned paper punched with the In Stitches border punch, a stamped bit of vintage ledger paper (I used the Continuous Stamp System to stamp a long design and then cut it it down to the size I needed – much quicker than stamping each strip!). I planned these pages around square photos – easier to plan around when you don‘t know what youíll be taking! I then bound them into an album using fabric tape. My cover is simply an embellished piece of kraft cardstock – I love the new cloud squeeze punches and paired them with lots of autumnal colors and a little butterfly for embellishment.
After Thanksgiving, youíll just need to take a few minutes to print and add your photos to the album. I used my XXL Tag punch and typed a bit of journaling about each photo and added it to the pages. I also stamped some journaling lines on the back inside cover so I had space to add more details about our day.
This second project is designed as a place for each member of your family to reflect on what theyre thankful for this year. I made it the same size, 4 inches x 6 inches, as the previous mini – it makes it easier to store them together!
I used the Everywhere Punch Window System to punch a scalloped square in each page of the mini, and backed them with patterned paper and a monogram initial for each of us. The cover got a cute little owl and a tab that reads 'thankful'. I used border stamps to make journaling lines and added a bit of Postage Border punched striped patterned paper at the bottom of each tag.
Each member of my family sat down and wrote a few thoughts on their tag. I love having the record of everyone’s handwriting – it makes these pages even more meaningful. Once they had all finished, I simply glued them back to back and bound the album using baker’s twine.
I hope these ideas have you ready to get your Thanksgiving memories onto paper!
