With a few discarded mailing tubes, construction paper, and Fiskars Squeeze Punches you can craft these characters in under 20 minutes.
Usually I use photos of my friends in my craft projects, but no one I know is pretty enough for something this size. Just kidding! I love using photos of my friends as well as vintage images, and for this project I decided to use an image of Lina Cavalieri, a famous opera singer from the early 1900s. Lina’s image was made iconic by Piero Fornasetti, who used it for his art and furniture, but you should feel free to substitute your own face or the face of an attractive friend for this project.
1. Cut out 1 of your copied faces
2. Lay a piece of paper with a copied image facedown on your workspace, then lay your cutout face faceup on top, so that the faces are back to back. Trace around your copied image.
3. Cut out the shape that you just traced.
4. Spray Elmer’s adhesive on the back of one of the images you just cut out, then glue it to a piece of cardboard.
5. Carefully cut out the cardboard backed faced with an X-ACTO knife.
6. Spray the second image with adhesive and glue it to the back of your cardboard head.
7. Repeat steps 2 through 6, using the cardboard head you just made as a pattern to trace.
8. Cut one of your cardboard heads in half
9. Apply hot glue to the center edges of your split face and glue 1 to each side of the full cardboard head.
4 photocopies of a face that fills a standard 8 ½” x 11” sheet of paper
