With a few discarded mailing tubes, construction paper, and Fiskars Squeeze Punches you can craft these characters in under 20 minutes.
On a recent family shopping trip, my husband decided to treat us to dinner. My son and I love Chipotle Mexican Grill, so this is what where we chose to eat. Because this would be my husband's first time eating there, and because we eat out very infrequently, being a memory keeper, of course I scanned the materials on the counter and the table for things to take home as mementos of our trip. As we finished up our meal and it was obvious we would be taking some of our food home with us, I requested a to-go box. When I was handed an embossed aluminum container, I knew I had my memento!
Fiskars has long offered many scissor options that can be used to incorporate fabric items and punches for incorporating thinner paper-based items, but the addition of the Fuse Creativity System(R) to the product line has really broadened the options of crafters! I could have cut the embossed emblem from the container using scissors, but it would have been more tedious and getting smooth cuts would have been tricky. A punch would not have cut through the aluminum. The Fuse does cut through it, cuts quickly and smoothly, and gave me many shape options. I chose to keep it small and used the Petunia Mini Design Set.
In previous installments of Documenting My Life, I mentioned that, during weeks which space allows, I am including an item that is a favorite in the family. For week 14, I used the Tag Medium Design Set to cut a section from a box of crackers that I enjoy eating as a snack.
The Fuse will also cut bulkier pieces of cardboard, such as corrugated cardboard. For the base of this embellishment, I used the box from a set of glass serving dishes I recently got. After die cutting it, I separated the layers of the material to reveal the corrugated material between the paper layers.
The Fuse will quickly and effortlessly cut many other heavier-weight or dense materials. Some that come to mind are leather, roof flashing, felt, and thin sheets of wood, so keep an open mind about the possibilities when collecting memorabilia for your own memory-keeping projects.
