Creating layouts that celebrate our home – or homes – lays a solid foundation for our family’s story. I’ve moved more than 20 times in my life (gypsy parents!), so creating a layout that captures the places that I’ve called home adds a layer of detail that is at the heart of MY story.
In this layout, I chose to document the cities that I have lived in, rather than the houses. Think about documenting cities, states, houses – even neighborhoods! I plan to add individual layouts with photos and details about each of these cities. The finished product will be an album that shows my journey (literally) through different parts of the US. What does your story look like?
1. I wanted to incorporate a mix of photos and web images in my layout, so I created a photo collage in my photo editing software. To maintain consistency, I converted the collage to black and white.
2. For this layout, I wanted to create a slightly vintage feel, so I printed my photo collage directly onto cardstock.
3. I trimmed the photo collage with my Fiskars trimmer, then adhered it to my base cardstock.
4. Using the Block Party squeeze punch, create 12 squares of coordinating paper. Adhere in a grid pattern above the photo collage.
5. Print title and journaling on cardstock, then cut into strips. Adhere to “empty” space on photo collage cardstock (alternatively, you could mount your collage on cardstock, then adhere your title and journaling)
6. Add a narrow strip of punched border cardstock to anchor your layout.
7. Finish your layout by adhering a tag, punched shape, journaling, and ribbon to the lower corner of your layout (this also helps to create a “visual triangle” between the grid, title, and corner detail)
Thanks to Graphic 45 for providing the paper used in this project!
