Beginner, Cardstock, Craft Tools, How-To-Projects, Smitha Katti, Spring, Summer,
Since Valentine’s day was such a big hit earlier this year with my little toddler girl, I decided to let her help me make a gift for Father’s Day. The sheer joy and excitement on her face as she sat to “make a card for Dad” – I cannot really put into words! She loved this project, I mean really really loved this project- so I am sure to be thinking of more ideas like these for the future!
To begin with- I used a pre made blank cream card. I trimmed a piece of cardstock, to measure slightly smaller than the card size. I also gathered all of my supplies- a few punches, foam squares and some masking tape. I punched a small photograph into a heart shape and matted it with some cream cardstock. I also punched a circle from regular paper that you would feed to your printer.
Adhere the paper circle using masking tape onto the cardstock. I folded the masking tape to form a loop and this worked fine for me. An easier way would be to punch the circle from a post it note and adhere it temporarily onto the cardstock. And then let the fun/chaos begin! Let your little toddler color all over the cardstock- with crayons, markers or watercolors. Anything ☺
Once the entire cardstock has been covered with crayon markings, carefully peel of the masking circle. (You could totally punch any other shape and make this a different theme card- a heart, a Christmas tree, a bird, a flower…)
I chose to add the photo and a sentiment onto it using foam squares. You could just hand write or if your kids are older ask them to print “Happy Father’s Day” or “World’s best Dad”
I also decorated the envelope with a heart I punched from more crayon markings. This would also be a great idea for the card itself!
And that’s it. All done!
An additional idea: I plan to gift the card along with a blank empty frame so that my husband can display this at work
