Summer Craft Camp

It’s summertime, and the living is easy – until you hear that familiar refrain: "We’re booored!"

No matter how much kids look forward to summer, they sometimes miss the structure of school. A crafty solution is to create a Summer Craft Camp at home. Use your Fiskars tools to create a variety of crafty activities to keep the kiddos engaged and excited.

Let’s put on a Puppet Show
Encourage older children to write the story, while younger children put together these easy paper bag puppets. Start with simple brown lunch bags, and provide children with a variety of paper scraps and shaped punches. (tip - for one of my puppets, I used the Leave it to Weaver Border Punch to create fun 'hair') When the puppets are complete, they can take turns putting on a show for the family!

Create Mosaic Masterpieces
Mosaics are colorful and fun to make. Use Fiskars shape templates to create the outlines for your mosaics. Then fill in with brightly colored shapes–you can either have children use Fiskars scissors to snip small pieces of paper, or Fiskars punches to quickly punch a variety of shapes. (tip: I used a 1/4 inch circle punch to create sprinkles for my cupcake mosaic). Fill in the outlines with these paper bits, and create a mosaic gallery to show off their work!

Keep Cool with Fun Fans
Perfect for staying cool by the pool, or taking along to a summertime parade–these paper fans are a hot weather must! Use your Fiskars trimmer to create 6" x 6" squares of paper, then let the kids decorate with punched shapes and borders. (tip: I used the Upper Crest border punch on the sides of one fan to create an interesting border) For even more texture, run paper through a Fiskars paper crimper before adhering to fan. Use Fiskars Adhesive runner to attach both sides to a popsicle stick.

I hope these ideas are helpful in fending off the summer boredom blues. Enjoy your Summer Craft Camp!
