How Do The Downspout Diverters Work?

Detailed cutaway view

The DiverterPro™ has a filter that allows the water to flow into the barrel, while debris passes by.

The Fiskars® rainwater harvesting system is an easy way to collect, store and dispense rainwater. The rain barrel water diverter kit, included with each rain barrel, automatically channels water from the gutter downspout to the barrel. When your rain barrel is full, the rainwater continues through the downspout where it will then drain away from your house, preventing it from seeping into your foundation.

Our downspout diverters are designed to work with standard 2"x3" or 3"x4" gutter downspouts. These two sizes are standard for most homes in the United States. If you do not have either of these sizes on your home, do not install using our instructions.

How much rain will I collect?

The amount of rain your Fiskars® Rainwater Collection System will collect depends on two things: The amount of rain that comes down on your roof, and how much roof area drains into the gutter and downspout where you've installed the diverter. As an example, if you have a 500 square foot roof section feeding a downspout, it will take about two tenths of an inch of rain to fill a 52 gallon barrel. A roof area of only 1000 square feet can provide approximately 600 gallons of water during a one inch rainfall.
