Team T-shirt Throw Pillows

We all have our favorite sports team and we all have our favorite t-shirts we wear to represent and cheer our team on.  But, let’s face it, after all that wear, our shirts lose a little bit of their luster and get forgotten in the bottom of the dresser drawer.

Now is the time to pull them out of the drawer and upcycle them for a team spirit home décor project.  These are perfect for that hard to buy for husband or brother-in-law.  Help him show his team spirit on game day by making him a set of pillows to spruce up the décor in his man cave.  How perfect would these be made from NFL team shirts for a superbowl party or a fantasy football draft party?

T-Shirt on Cutting Mat

First, you’ll need to lay your t-shirt onto your cutting mat and smooth all wrinkles from the center working outward.  Then, using your acrylic ruler and rotary cutting tool to cut each side seam and sleeve off.

Then, turn your ruler horizontally and cut off the neckline.

Next, because of the stretchiness of t-shirt material, do not add a seam allowance measurement to the pillow form measurement. You’ll cut the remaining portion of the shirt to the exact size of your pillow form.

T-Shirt and Orange-Handled Scissors

Pin front and back pillow pieces right sides together. Sew along all four sides leaving a 10” gap open along one side. Clip corners on a diagonal to reduce bulk, then turn t-shirt right side out and slip over the pillow form.  Slip-stitch the opening closed using thread of a coordinating color.

Then throw them on your couch to add the perfect touch to a Superbowl party!
