New Year's Sewing Resolution: October Hat

New Years Sewing Resolution October Hat

As we move into the cooler months, I wanted to add to my growing collection of handmade items, a warm and slouchy crochet beanie.

I am by no means an expert at crochet but I can follow a pattern, and luckily for me, there are many patterns available online. After an extensive search to find just the right one, I began making up the Super Slouch Hat by Crazy Sock Crochet.

I used one skein of Vanna’s Choice worsted weight yarn, but you may need a second skein if you want to add more rows for extra ‘slouch’. For an adult hat, you’ll need 3 crochet hooks in various sizes: M (9.0mm), K (6.5mm) and J (6.0mm).

Circle

This hat starts with a magic loop, also known as an adjustable ring, and because the hat is crocheted in a round (a continuous spiral), it is useful to have a stitch marker to mark your first stitch on each round.

Stitch-marker

The pattern is clearly written and easy to follow. All hook changes are marked and suggestions are given about where to add extra rows if desired. I made this hat in just a couple of hours.

Finally, I always like to add a small piece of ribbon to the brim of my handmade hats as it gives a small personal touch to the finished item.
