fiskars hexagon punch
I bought two of these punches the other day, the Large and the XLarge to see if they would be of help in my quilting. I have recently gotten into English paper Piecing, making hexagons for quilting. Making all those hexagons can be a real bear even though I had found a place on line that let me run off an entire sheet of hexagons to print out. So when my husband found these for me, it was all systems go. I first tried punching out a single piece out of freezer paper (when ironed waxy side next to the back of the fabric, it hangs on until you can baste the hexagons). I ended up with little 'hanging chads' on the a couple of the edges. My husband then started playing with them and found that if you used two layers of the freezer paper with the waxy sides together, they punched out perfectly!!!! So not only were they perfect, you got two at a time, so even faster punching. I do have arthritis in my hands among many other places, and while the punch itself felt heavy duty, it was easy for me to punch the paper out. Now all we have to do is get Fiskars to make the hexagon punches in bigger sizes and quilters will gobble them up as hexagons are one of the latest rages in quilting.
